The client and the server is on the same machine ???

I think your firewall rules should allow traffic trough loopback interface.

Any way, you could configure your firewall to accept connections on port
3050, you could restrict the access to some ip (to tight your security),
you could use Zebedee (by default on port 11965) to compress and encrypt
your traffic, etc.

If you have diferent machines you should have a network protocol to
comunicate, and the default protocol is TCP/IP, since you use TCP/IP you
should have ports open for some kind of traffic in your firewall.
