This might sound horrible, but I've been tinkering with IBPhoenix's ODBC
Driver, and MS Access 2000.
Link tables to external ODBC data sources, and build your reports in Access.
It's not free, but you've probably already got it on your windows machine!

The ODBC driver is free, however...

It might not be the best solution on the planet, but it's a familiar
environment to do reporting in.

I think Crystal Reports can run against an ODBC source, too.
