This does not initialise the package database used by rpm, and it is
not recommanded to keep too different packages db (rpm + deb).
So I would rather go the 'alien' way.
But running the install script from the tarball is my prefered
solution (since I cannot update with apt-get)

No. Just try it; the worst thing that could happen, is that the fb
server will not run correctly. If you are able to connect to a db
after installing with an alien-made package, then the install was
successfull.
