I logged in as Administrator, that may have been it, or the fact that
I rebooted the machine every time I made a change, that may have been
it or the fact thats its just windows. Who know. but I did get it
installed and running from the zip files.

now, a couple of more questions. can I just copy the fbClient and
gds32.dll that came with rc5 into the client machines OS to bring
their version up to par.

Actually what all should be over on the client machines?
