An inet_error is a standard tcp network error and is documented by your
operating system. I haven't got the source of Linux documentation for this at
hand, but if you have installed a full developer system you will be able to
find this stuff. (At the very least it will be in the kernel sources.)

The interbase.log is just being the messenger in this case - a network error
occurred and it is reporting it. Of course, more information on the context
of the error (ie what was Firebird trying to do at the time? Who was the
client? ) would be useful, but that doesn't exist at the moment.
