Geoff,
This seems really strange. I noticed in the example you give below that
you used "root" to test the connection. Have you tried with another user ?
Have you tried on a db that you've created ?
Was the installation smooth?
Unfortunately I've not used FreeBSD (only SCO (IB) and Mandrake (FB)) -
so I have only questions and I guess for me it would be a matter of
trying things.
