Alan,
It is an exception seen from the Delphi IDE but originating externally - hence 'external exception' :)
I'm not sure if the source is OS, db or ODBC.

so is this exception being raised by Firebird? or Delphi? or ODBC?
it doesn't look like an ISC exception (firebird)
