Some up-to-date compiling notes for this version would be greatly
appreciated.

I have managed to build and install a partially functional 1.0.3 on
Solaris 8 - with a lot of playing around.
(removed pyxis from the build, removed '//' comments from the source...).

Unfortunately I still have some undefined symbols ( ib_printf etc) in
libgds, which breaks gpre (at least)
