Hi Mike,
My vote for Database Workbench! ;-)
The product is great, enhancing with each new release. Support is
superb and nearly in real-time, and what I really like is that
Upscene not only praise their products but also helps people with
general IB/FB related problems in this list and in the Borland NGs.
According to the missing features. Personally, I don't miss them. ;-)
IMHO the visual data modelling facility is a great marketing thingy,
but honestly, I don't know how many people are seriously using such
a feature. I prefer having everything under my control, for example
cooking up my database with intuitive object editors (Table Editor,
View Editor, ...), and Database Workbench is a great time-saver in
this area ;-).
Database Workbench has a visual SQL query builder, so your assumption
was wrong.
A database comparer facility would be nice, but that depends on your
update strategy. I must admit, I don't trust them ;-), so I collect
all DDL statements in a plain text file, so that I can update any
customers database. And, Database Workbench has a facility to record
DDL statements, so you can change metadata of database objects in
the corresponding object editor, and behind the scenes pure DDL
statements are logged for later use.
I'm very satisfied with DBW and I've never looked back ... ;-)
