Installing on FreeBSD 4.8 (After cvsup'ing ports tree) as root:

cd /usr/ports/firebird (Firebird-1.0.2)
make install

Installing apache-1.3.27+mod-ssl-2.8.14
cd /usr/ports/www/apache13-modssl
make install

Installing php-4.3.1
cd/usr/ports/www/mod_php4
make install
choose firebird support from the menu, and click ok

These three steps, and you're ready to go.
I've never done it on Linux, so I can't help with install there, until I've
spent a few days working it out.

Whereas you can have a FreeBSD webserver with php and Firebird from a bare
iron machine in under 15 minutes, ready to roll.
