I have this same question with the Linux RPM. I've successfully linked a
client library (kinterbasdb) with the libfbembed.so library from Firebird
1.5 CS (RPM) by making a symbolic link from that file to libgds.so, but
I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do. Anyone have any insight
into this?

By the way, I'm still having the connection freezing problem with
kinterbasdb+firebird1.5 that I described earlier. I've contacted the
kinterbasdb author but I'm starting to suspect the problem is not with his
module. Basically, if I leave any connection to the database idle for 60
seconds, any subsequent use of the connection freezes for about 30
seconds before I get any response. No errors, just a big delay.
