Alan, I still don't get the point. Sorry .
I uninstalleded everithing, got throu the registry and cheked every eventual ib entry. reinstalled (full installation) and still face the same problem.
I even tried to uninstall ib & install firebird (1.02) but nothing is changing.

When I install ib I used IBWin32Setup.EXE (file version 1.1.1.0 , file description "InterBase Installation 08/28/2001"), for FireBird I used Firebird-1_0_2_908-Win32.exe ( has no further informations)

Again, odbc,jdbc-odbc connection & IbConsole work from a client machine, jdbc returns a soket exception or hungs. I the services I can't find any Interserver ( and I am sure I did the full installation).
I am extremely confused ...
Apart from the jdbc .jar library I shouldn't be supposed to have something else on the client (or should I ?) so this is really annoyng!
I tried several configurations for the client machine .... Suse 8.0 Linux,Win98&WinXp but the problem don't seem to be on the client side... I don't really know what else I should try ....

You must do the correct full install - registry entries and all
Have a look at ibphoenix.com
