an ODS 8 database can be read by an Interbase 4.x
Server. Interbase 4.x was a commercial product,
so you won't be able to find a free download.

The easiest way would be to ask the person who
gave you the DB to make a transportable backup
of it with IB 4.x server.

This backup can be restored by you with Interbase 6
or Firebird.
