Subject: [ib-support] Server terminated abnormally

hi

This weekend we had a customer where the DB crasch.
They use a FB 1.0.0.796.
It runs on a Windows 2000 server.

They connect to the DB from two programs which we have made.
We use Delphi 5 ent.
The first program uses INterbase Express comp and the other uses BDE.

From inside there house there are around 10 clients connecting to this DB.
From "outside" there are 14 clients connecting to the DB via a Windows
Terminal Server.

From june 2002 until this weekend it has run more or less smothly.
But this weekend they crashed.

This was in the Firebird log:

DATABASE-SRV (Client) Sat Apr 05 13:44:11 2003
C:\Program Files\Firebird\bin\ibserver.exe: terminated abnormally (-1)

DATABASE-SRV (Client) Sat Apr 05 13:44:12 2003
Guardian starting: C:\Program Files\Firebird\bin\ibserver.exe

And this was in the appl. log (event viewer):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Firebird Guardian
Event Category: None
Event ID: 281
Date: 2003-04-05
Time: 13:43:50
User: N/A
Computer: DATABASE-SRV
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 281 ) in Source ( Firebird Guardian )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary
registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a
remote computer. The following information is part of the event:
Abnormal Termination: C:\Program Files\Firebird\bin\ibserver.exe:
terminated abnormally (-1).

To fix it, I did a backup via GBak, and afterwards a Restore via GBak.
Then it was up and running again.

What I don't understand is, the error message.
Where can I find information about them ?

Does anyone know what I can mean ?

Just the day before there servers was restarted.
This was done, because they sometimes uses to Database server to
another server job (not IB or FB).
This job is rather old and uses some DOS things, which makes the
server extremly slow.
We have told our client to put this other server job on another
server, but they havn't done this so fare.
So we restarted all they servers to make sure no job was running whih
could affect the servers in the weekends.

Michael
