Would it be wise to fire COMMIT (or COMMITRETAINING) between sql-
statements that influence a lot of records (100.000) or is it better
not to ?

Method A.
STARTTRANSACTION
delete from customers
COMMITRETAINING
insert into customers
COMMIT

B.
STARTTRANSACTION
delete from customers
insert into customers
COMMIT
