sure - you can pre-encrypt it - then decrypt before sending

Not quite true.

(a) you can use a tool like ASPack
(b) you can use a string like ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ and set the
password together at run time by using the single letters of this string
- no hex editor will show what you're doing....
