So far you have dittoed my experience - I had previous fb, upgraded.
However, I took the previous isc4.gdb (saved in /tmp), backed it up and
restored it to <interbase install directory>/isc4.gdb. Don't know why that
would make any difference, though, since that wasn't necessary for the
databases themselves. Another thing to try is being in a different
directory from the target of restore. If I recall (and maybe not) you got
that error (connection rejected by remote interface) with Interbase if your
pwd was in target directory.

Have you tried the --user SYSDBA --password whatever options?

Bert,

this is exactly what I am doing (ie root & no usernma/password). A bit
of added info: I had fb 1.00 previously installed could that make any
difference. I just copied acros the new release. should I run any
utility on isc4.gdb ?
