Firstly - are you sure you want JDBC connection? and not normal socket
connection via the client library?
IF so then yes you need to ensure that the interclient.jar file is in your
classpath - enter it via the system variables settings and reboot.

Subject: [ib-support] Install Firebird under Windows 2000
Hi
I am trying to install Firebird under Windows 2000 but cannot get the
client and server to communicate.
I installed the Server from file:
Firebird-1.0.2.908-Win32.exe
from the SourceForge site, and also installed the InterClient JDBC
Driver for Windows from the same site:
interclient_210_Win32.zip
Running the "isconfig" utility states that Server version 2.01 is
running as a service and the root directory is C:\Program
Files\Firebird\InterClient... (cannot see entire path)
Running the "CommDiag" utility with parameters:
InterServer Host: localhost
Database file: c:/Program Files/Firebird/examples/employee.GDB
yields response:
InterClient Release: 2.0.1 Test Build, Client/Server
Edition
InterClient compatible JRE versions: 1.3
InterClient compatible IB versions: 5, 6
InterClient driver name: interbase.interclient.Driver
InterClient JDBC protocol: jdbc:interbase:
InterClient JDBC protocol version: 20001
InterClient expiration date: no expiration date
Testing database URL jdbc:interbase://localhost/c:/Program
Files/Firebird/Examples/EMPLOYEE.GDB.
***** Error or Exception Occurred *****
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied
(java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.io)
***** Installation problem detected! *****
I notice that the Firebird client release notes state:
"3. Make sure that your Java CLASSPATH is updated to point to the
installed .jar files location"
Is this necessary? How do I do it?
Please suggest what is wrong with my installation.
Thank you
David Aldrich
