as database and program already exist and work, this looks the best
solution.

I wonder how feasible it is.

If the same low level Read/Write functions are used along the whole
program (both for table data and keys), the effort should be minimal.

(A few years ago I modified 2 lines of Doctor Boss - an ISAM database
and got the database crypted)

I wonder if somebody - who already browsed the FB source code - could
help here.
