:. Firebird database connection is not controlled by /etc/hosts.equiv, which
is pertinent only when you are using comands like: rsh, rlogin and so forth.
:. In case you are not being able to connect to a given host, try checking
whether there is a firewall around, like: ipchains or iptables.
