XP does not help ;)

There are several checks built into the 1.5 installer that
could well sort out the problem. If you do not have legacy
stuff, then FB1.5 is probably sensible.

Uninstall FB1 again FIRST and I assume that Interbase has
not been anywhere near the machine? So no gds32.dll's lying
around!

I'll repeat my usual whinge - XP is a desktop operating
system, not designed for server functions, and I am
convinced that adds to these niggles. Especially if it is
trying to do heavy server stuff like internet gateway as
well :)
W2k seems a lot more stable (even the pro version)
