I don't think there is a preferred OS. I have IB5.6 running on Win Server
2003 and my application is an old D4 BDE application which runs on a win2000
prof workstation. There are no issues re connection time.

Helen mentioned CPU but I see nowhere where you mention that more than one
CPU is in your server.. Is there?

I have shadowing disabled as well on both drives present. In my case it is a
box which used to have NT4Sp6 on it and the install upgraded to 2003 -
shadowing was disabled by default.

When you try to connect locally do you have the same delay?
