This year was the first year IBObjects did not win the Best Database
Connectivity Award in the Delphi Informants user awards (it won the
first three years this category existed). Hence, it is a great set of
tools.

I do not know much about FIBPlus, but I think it has matured the last
couple of years and is becoming quite good as well.

Basically, I think your choice is between 'excellent' and 'good' and
you are likely to be satisfied regardless of which you choose. I only
know IBO and would not like to swap that for any other database
connectivity components. Though IBO does have a learning curve, the
most important part being not to try understanding everything in the
beginning. You may get lots of new components and properties to play
with, but you really only need a few of them to start going.

One additional benefit of IBO is the ibobjects mailing list, where
Jason Wharton, Helen Borrie, Martijn Tonies, Geoff Worboys and many
others help you in times of trouble.
