For what little it's worth, the SQL standard specifies that trailing
blanks are to be ignored when comparing strings for equality, but that
they are significant when the comparision uses the LIKE operator.
Why, I do not know. But it does. And InterBase and Firebird have
followed that rule since the beginning of standard SQL.
