What version should I use?

Firebird 1.3 Alfa works ok.
But I didn't understand why. Looking at the code between 1.4 and 1.3 did not
reveal to my unexperienced eyes nothing that should matter.
The point is that it did work only on 1.3 Alfa and it was not made on
purpose
to work so no one knows why it did.
