Try adding that to the HOSTS file for faster name resolution.

OR are we talking about local copies of Firebird?
In which case the problem is the new protection stuff that
Microsoft has added, which is backing up the *.gdb files
every time you make a change ( that is log on )
Some one elses grey cells will have to provide the means of
switching it of - can't remember of hand - I must be getting
old.
