Something that's tripped up a lot of people is the fact
that a commit retaining does NOT allow the oldest active
transaction to move forward. So if you spend all day
doing "short" transactions terminated by commit retaining,
you'll see the same problem as if you opened a transaction
in the morning and left it all day.
