If you stop and start the IB / FB service you will have the benefit of:
1) No long running TX's
2) Better long term performance for large and heavily hit DB's
3) No ghost connections.
In the space prior to people logging back in you can:
1) do an OS copy (minimises losses @2am)
2) do a sweep (sorts out rolled back TX's)
3) Do a backup with grabage collection
4) Have very happy users.
Cheers,
JAC.
