Seems like a lot of trouble to go to, Fred, when FB can do exactly
the same thing itself...
If you are determined to shutdown the db and deny access then simply:
gfix -shut -force n (n being time to wait til forced shutdown)
see also gfix -shut -tran n, gfix -shut -attach n
Do your gbak, or whatever, confident that there are no connections
(nobody but owner and sysdba can access the db) then bring it back up
with:
gfix -online
If you wanted to get fancy about it, you'd post an event notifying
clients something like "Shutting down for maintenance in XX minutes.
Please complete your work and exit immediately!" -- you don't want to
trash their current transaction.
Regards,
Andrew Ferguson
-- I can neither confirm nor deny this.
