you will have to use a big 'if' statment in your trigger.
I would not have done it like this as you may get duplicates or use a
compound key value.

I have an application that produces documents that are numbered per
year. So I want to have number ranges per year. For every number
range I defined a generator.

Now I want to write a trigger that will give the correct document
number based on the date of the document that is posted. Does anyone
have a suggestion on how this can be done ?
