I wouldn't be surprised if the BDE started a transaction (in the
background) upon connecting leaving it running until disconnecting. After
all, the BDE was made for desktop databases and not client/server databases
used by more than one person at a time!
More useful components (IBO, IBX etc.) ought to let the OAT move along when
possible.
