Firebird is not InterBase 6.5. Both were developed from the same InterBase
6.0.1 codebase of July 2000, but both have changed in nearly two years
since IB 6.0.1. IB 6.5 is a commercial product, Firebird is open source.

Some minor incompatibilities already exist and the paths will continue to
diverge. Firebird has nothing to lose from maintaining
compatibility: hence its policy is to keep an upgrade path open from all
IB versions to Firebird; whereas Borland's policy is a commercial one to
discourage customers from taking their business away to a free competitor.
