Use GBak Scheduler, it uses gbak but adds in a schedule functionality with
logging and priority settings. Be aware if you back up while the file is in
use some data may not be backed up, but other than that there is not much
else you can do.

I know it is not safe to backup (ie, copy)
a live db to tape so what is the best way to
ensure good backups are made onto tape
in a 24x7 W2K environment?
Is using GBAK on a scheduler OK?

Roger
