Thank you for your reply. In another application of ours, East Asia is in
the planning, but unknown when we will market it(1 or 2 years maybe), and
the database is already setup for Unicode.

Anyway, I did some experimentation and found out the problem occurs only
when connecting using UNICODE_FSS. Using any other character set upon
connection doesn't give the problem.

Just thought to give you a heads up on a possible starting point to find
the problem.
