No, but thanks anyway. I agree that is what it sounds like, which is
puzzling, but I have searched my whole system and this is the
first time I downloaded them both (in the same package). Either
there is a bug or the initial communication is garbled because I have
a configuration problem but I would have thought I would get no
communication at all in that case.

Anyway, I am taking this to the Firebird-java group.
