It's so old that there's even one or two entries on our tracker. Comparisons
are flexible when they aren't indexed. When the index is used, comparison is
rigorous. Nothing new since IB4.0.

Futhermore, dialect 3 was supposed to stop some implicit conversions from
string to number but I don't see how they apply. I don't see any difference
when compared to the old behavior.
