MsSql, where's the role for IB here? Why people assume one has to figure out
in a crystal ball what the heck are they doing or trying to do? Is he
leaving IB and only wants to port the data to MsSql? Is he tired of MsSql
and wants to come to IB? The paragraph that follows only says that he has
interests in a OLE/DB provider.
:-)
I've worked with the Brazilian OLE/DB and the Russian OLE/DB. There's
another at oledb.com (or was it .org?) that I never have tried. Personally,
the Russian OLE/DB worked well once I got the connection parameters that
best suit my needs. And answers not addressed in the FAQ were sent in hours,
even with the language impedance drawback.
time to be answered, I know.
and can't get the
MsSql, no surprise. Try to use MsSql with repeatable read for all client
applications and see how MsSql eventually dies after some time. The short
answer is that without knowledge, it's difficult to expect the same from
engines A, B & C. I think that company will have the same problems with IBX,
FibPlus or IBO or the two most remarkable ODBC offerings, Gemini and
EasySoft (I prefer Gemini, but that's me.)
I understand he's asking for a bloated OLE/DB provider that will provide all
nasty *bonus* services that the MsSql provider for OLE/DB has. Who would
want this? Worse, who would fund this, Shared Logic? I think that the
request may be well intentioned, but it's out of context. We can't mimic
MsSql. For example, I know the Russian OLE/DB driver is enough fast for a
web server (I've tested it) but if all drivers were found too slow, I'm
inclined to think that the problem is in the queries that are sent to the
engine.
It's impossible to suggest more without knowing what the person/company is
doing and what are their concrete problems, sorry.
