I pasted in the create table statement in ISQL and then tried the select
statement. It executed without raising an error. Obviously no data was
returned because none had been entered. I created some test data and
inserted it. Reran the query and still no problems.

Can you confirm the actual version of Firebird or InterBase that you
used? I tested on a post-RC2 build of Firebird.
