Jesus... quite a story...
My suggestion is that you do it in Delphi using IBObjects
(http://www.ibobjects.com), and use Firebird on the server, forgetting about
the old IB. Talk with Jason and tell him this exactly story, and maybe he
let you use the components for free. (If you in the future will have some
profit from the software you can pay him back).
The main reasons to use Delphi+IBObjects will be:
a) You have the installation with Windows Workstations already. Why change
them?
b) You can always use a Linux Server, if you are more comfortable with it.
c) You have a restrict time to accomplish this and you know Delphi already,
and know nothing about the API;
