I've found that IBObject are really great components, expecially the native version and the related visual components. Together (access layer+visual layer) they give you fast fast RAD programming, really effective and performance tuned user interfaces, great support from the creator and it's team.
Don't want to tell you that IBX are worse, they just not compare.

You have triggers for before + after events (before insert and/or after insert). If I understand your question you want to know if the sequence can be:
-constraints check
-trigger
?
I don't know... I think that is:
-trigger before_xx
-constraints check
-trigger after_xx
but I should do some test... just sure that
-trigger before_xx
-constraints check
does work.
