string being inserted is longer than the declared length

A simple insert can overflow. What are you using as a client? Can you
inspect your input?

If there is a UDF call in your insert, it's not a "simple insert". Can you
provide information about the UDF and how you know that it adds characters?

Describe the problem adequately and let's see.

all of a week...my bad.

that affect this? I noticed it changed notes (255) to a BLOB (80)...

Database, version and client might help too.

to describe all future problems adequately. again, apologies.
