I find it easiest to always build on an older system. I use Mandrake 7.2
which is glibc 2.1 based and the programs I build work on Mandrake
7.2/8.0/8.1, Red Hat 7.0/7.1/7.2, and Suse 7.1/7.2/7.3 as well as almost any
reasonably current Debian or Slackware release. I would be happy to compile
the release version of Firebird for Linux if that would help. I have my
system setup to do this now anyway and just today I recompiled the 1.0.0
source code to use internally.
