The problem is how long do you support older versions of the
libraries, for example do you support just GLIBC-2.2 and GLIBC-2.1
or do you also include GLIBC-2.0 but why stop there.... you end up
adding LIbc-5 and Libc-4, etc. Then you stuck where new features
in the library can't be used because it breaks compatability with
the old libraries. Plus you end up with a mess of work arounds,
that are library specific, and an inability to run testing on those
older versions.

I think a note at the download site, that states you need a
minimum of Kernel X.Y.Z with GLIBC A.B.C makes more sense,
because then you know that if you have an older library that you
need to upgrade the library first. Just like shrink-wrapped software
usually has minimum requirements on the box.

Having said all this, when V1.0 is released for production, it will be
built with a certain library, and compatability with that library should
be maintained through the patches, on that version, but future
versions, like 1.1 or 2 could be built with newer libraries.
