I think Sean was asking whether a database that had been restored into Firebird and then re-gbak-ed could be restored back into 5.1 from the Firebird gbk file.

The plain-Jane answer is "no".

The initial restore from the 5.1 gbk into Firebird creates a database with a higher On-Disk structure (from ODS 9 to ODS 10). The Firebird gbak creates a gbk file for ODS 10 (by default, transportable to an ODS 10 server on any OS platform). The IB 5.1 gbak would not be expected to be able to read an ODS 10 gbk file.

But, give it a try with your Dialect 1 database - you never know your luck. Just make sure you keep copies of everything in safe places first. :))

Helen
