XP Home is not a server OS, I don't what MS have done to it, or left out of
it, but we have recently had to put W2k on some of our Sales reps laptops so
they could demo some of our TCP/IP based server software that just refused to
accept remote connections.

This might be worth double checking as XP Home's built in Firewall defaults
to 'everything closed'

Has the customer got a *NIX box? If so do an nmap on the 'server' to see the
the port is really open/closed/firewalled (I think there may be a version of
nmap for Windows?)
