this fascinates me
try the / slash with localhost instead of \
what OS are you using
do you have localhost 127.0.0.1 listed in your hosts file?

Yes, I'd like to know too!

I occasionally run long jobs on the server (e.g. exporting a large
datasets
(1 mill records) or updating 200.000 records).
Doing this I've found that using "localhost:E:\...\db.gdb" takes about
twice the time as when I use just "E:\...\db.gdb". Instead of using
localhost I could run the job on a client (my pc) - the time difference is
rather small (IIRC).
