Artur,

I am sure there will be some problems. There was a lot of discussion about
reading old ODS9 with IB6 which made the upgrading of one app to IB6 create
potential problems for another IB5.6 based app. I was hoping that FB would
would allow backward reading of previous FB ODS so that migration from FB1
server to FB2 would not break someone elses app. IB/FB has been promoted
heavily on the zero admin, and the existince of the 'embedded installation
guide' document illustrates that it was borlands intention to deploy in this
manner. Changing the registry keys from IB5.6 to IB6 was quite problematic
for some of us (ie it broke existing apps). I hope that FB considers this
usage angle (the microsoft approach to combating the 'dll hell' is to run
local application specific copies of so called shared dll's - maybe FB will
allow mutliple FB servers on the same machine to avoid a forced upgrade of a
3rd party application, after all it has a pretty small footprint in a single
user environment so long as it isn't trying to sort a 1gb dataset). I have
to say that this would not be my preferred route, i would prefer to simply
let my app upgrade the FB server, confident in the knowledge that some other
FB based app would not know the difference.

Kind regards,
Pete
