See the Firebird 1 release notes (pdf file from firebirdsql.org or www.ibphoenix.com) for new features. FB RC2 should connect to an IB 6.01 database without problems. The main problem you will encounter in migration is that Firebird does not tolerate SQL statements containing ambiguous joins, which may affect your applications if they contain such statements. Otherwise, IB 6.x is upwardly compatible with Firebird...
