Yes, it is :) I wrote the SuSE firebird init.d script for RC1 and it was
"improved" in RC2. START_FIREBIRD should be added
automatically to your /etc/rc/config from /var/adm/fillup-
templates/rc.config.firebird but it seems that this "feature" is
broken in RC2 (missing fillup template). RC1 was too SuSE centric
so we had to rework it a bit to make it work nicely on RH, MDK
and other distros. Anyway, it should be corrected for final 1.0.

There is /etc/init.d/firebird script with /usr/bin/rcfirebird symlink. The
rcfirebird is IMHO the best shortcut from any place to get status
and start/stop the server :)
