The discussion on what is required is going on there, but
there are only a few of us contributing <g>

IB_SQL - I give it to my custoomers for maintenance.

> - easy extract metadate (in a Delphi-Create-format as choice) (10% of use)

This was Marathon, but there seems to be good news that it
will re-appear.
I keep full documentation on what I have PUT IN, and use
that to manage changes and updates. In this case IB_SQL does
the job.

As Above

IB_SQL has good facilities for displaying the information -
if there are bits you want that are missing, the source code
is available and we would all benefit. It's just that a lot
of us don't see it as a problem.

Datapum, or something else? IB_SQL datapump fills my copy
requirements.

??

Import can be fum, Export works well for simple stuff.

Documenting What?

> - graphical-relationship -> print (important for thinking about the db)

If you want pictures you can do the software your self <g> (
A lot of effort for little return? )

> - DB-service tools, as backup, restore, sweep .. (5% of use)

I am coming round to backup and restore being extranal to a
tool, but there are a few nice GUI's for managing it. For
customer sites, it's command line ( batch files ) and run
automatically, or with help.

> - this all combined with a modern human interface ...

IB_SQL is a little strange from the front end, but given the
tools contained in it, its not supprising. So what is
missing from it.

fbfetd group are, ofcause, concidering all OS's but a plan
of what is needed is a good starting point.
